How this site is funded

Plain language, no legalese. We earn commission when you buy through a link here, it costs you nothing extra, and here is what it does not buy.

The short version

Frost & Fender is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

That means: if you click a buy link on this site and then buy something, Amazon pays us a small percentage. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid anyway. The commission comes out of Amazon’s margin, not out of your pocket.

How the links work

Every buy link on this site goes through our own redirect first, at /go/, and then on to the retailer. Two reasons for that.

It lets us measure which recommendations people actually find useful, which is the only feedback we get. And it means that if a better program becomes available for a product later, we change one line of configuration rather than rewriting the article — so the content never has to be edited for commercial reasons.

Every one of those links carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", which is the markup search engines expect on a paid link. Our Amazon Associates tracking ID is frostandfender-20.

Where the disclosure appears

Above the first affiliate link on every monetized page, not just in the footer. The FTC requirement is that a disclosure is clear, conspicuous, and encountered before the link — a line at the bottom of the page does not meet that, and we do not treat it as if it did.

Every buy button on this site also carries an #ad label and a link back to this page, whether or not we currently have a price to show for that product.

What the commission does not buy

  • A position in a ranking. No manufacturer has paid for one and none has been offered one.
  • A better review. Products are ranked for the buyer this site is written for, and our top pick is frequently among the cheapest options on the page — which is the opposite of what commission-maximizing would produce.
  • Silence about problems. Every roundup names something to skip, several pages here tell you to buy nothing, and the highest value recommendation on our road salt page is a two-dollar car wash that earns us nothing at all.
  • Free products. We accept none. It is part of why we cannot claim to have tested anything, and we prefer the limitation to the obligation.

The editorial policy sets out how those are enforced.

About the prices

Prices on this site come from a live data feed and are stamped with the date they were verified. They change constantly, and the price you see at the retailer is the one that applies.

Where we do not hold a current verified price, the button reads “check price” rather than showing a number. We would rather show you nothing than something that might be wrong, and any price older than 48 hours disappears automatically rather than going stale on the page.

Other programs

At the time of writing, Amazon is the only affiliate program this site participates in. If that changes, this page will be updated before any link is.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, or you want to know whether a specific recommendation is affiliate-linked, ask: info@frostandfender.com, or use the contact form. The answer is almost always yes, and we would rather tell you than have you wonder.
